The Audit
At the Department of Afterlife Affairs, souls with unresolved issues have their lives audited to figure out where they went wrong. Michael St. John has to rewatch the most important (and traumatic) moments of his life: living with his abusive father, getting dumped by his fiancee, and watching his sister die. Trapped in this liminal space, Michael now needs to figure out where he went wrong before he ceases to exist. The Auditor and her Associates lead him through important flashbacks in different styles 1950s sitcom, teen musical, Greek drama, and Elizabethan period piece. An Ensemble portrays Michael at various ages along with other characters from his past, and a Greek chorus of three timeless narrators provide him with additional insight and commentary. Now it s up to Michael to be able to make peace with his choices in order to get a second chance to live his life the right way.
Performed to much success at the Texas One Act Play competition, strong writing, a unique style, and a running time just under 40 minutes make The Audit a very strong contender for contests and festivals.
